Match Report - 08 Jan 2014, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Blaze beat L&B Ladies
The first match of 2014 saw the reds take the court for a ‘must win’ game. Having had a long Christmas break everyone was feeling the excess that had been consumed, however the Monday night training session earlier in the week helped to shake off those cob webs and the team came out fighting.
The first quarter saw the Reds take the lead with an impressive attacking display backed up by turnovers in defence. Although the team got to a strong start mistakes were made all down the court and the opposition took the chances they were given and started to close the goal difference.
A few key players on the opposition had a real competitive nature and fought hard for every ball (one of those being the Olympic silver medallist badminton player Gail Emms MBE), a drive which wasn’t replicated by the reds consistently throughout the game.
The reds did reply however maintaining the early lead until the end of the match securing the victory 33 to 29.
Although a low scoring game which highlighted plenty for the team to work on in the new year, it was a great start to the year!
