Match Report - 10 Oct 2011, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Spirit beat JWB

First match and a win, bit close in the end but a win. We were away at Caldecote vs JWB. Score 5,7 4,13 8,3 5,5.
First quarter Baldock needed to find their feet and make a good start to the game. The team was working together well with the welcome addition of Harriet Foster in GA and finished the quarter with a two goal lead.
Second quarter and the wind seemed to have picked up! Despite this Baldock maintained control throughout. The defence worked hard and JWB struggled to get the ball down the court. At the other end the goals were all going in, fantastic shots from both Caroline Reid and Harriet Foster saw the score line fall much more favourably to Baldock by the end of the second quarter.
Third quarter the team had had a shuffle around and the wind seemingly working against us now meant the team lost valuable ground. It seemed like Baldock had taken their foot off the pedal a little and JWB were able to claw back a win.
Last quarter Baldock came out fighting but both teams were struggling against the wind and the goals were not coming easy! The centre court players George Headland, Daniella Distazio, Jane Coles picked up the defense and worked hard to bring the ball back to the shooters. Fantastic interceptions were made throughout the court. The defense in the semi circle Vicky Foster and Harriet worked tirelessly and stopped JWB score line increasing. In the attack Florrie Jones and Caroline kept working hard around the area despite the ever increasing wind/gale! As a result the goals started to go in.
Special mention to Miss Jones who kept putting the ball up and working hard, despite being exhausted from district trials! A fantastic start to the season, a well deserved win.
Girl of the match needs to go to Harriet Foster for fantastic shooting and fast neat defending in her first game for the club. Welcome to the team!!
