Match Report - 24 Jan 2018, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Mystics drew with Great Barford
Baldock were at a disadvantage as a player was running late, so Blacks made the decision to switch the team positions and start the game with 6 players. No WD meant our defence was weak so Great Barford scored 9 shots very quickly. Baldock Blacks worked extremely hard to cover as much of the court as possible and move the ball to the attackers. Although we didn't have many opportunities to score as Great Barford had the advantage, Baldock Blacks shooters secured the shots when the opportunities arose. Our 7th player arrived towards the end of the first quarter and quickly jumped in to fill the empty position and stop Great Barford from scoring any more goals. However, our rivals won the quarter.
A quick reshuffle of positions saw Baldock Black being able to defend well. The pressure meant Great Barford shooters missed a number of opportunities to score. This helped Baldock Blacks to score a couple goals. However, the pressure to win was evident as Baldock missed a number of opportunities to score. The second quarter resulted in a draw.
Another shuffle of positions saw Baldock Blacks attack the third quarter and return much stronger. Baldock Blacks defenders intercepted the ball and caught the majority of the rebounds in the goal third, showing the pressure they brought to the game and to Great Barford. Baldock Blacks shooters secured the lead as most of the shooting opportunities resulted in goals. However, Baldock Blacks GS took a very nasty fall and had to leave the game for a brief period. This meant C and WA worked harder than ever to support GA in the goal third as Great Barfords GD and GK were able to double mark. The pressure increased rapidly so a couple of shooting opportunities were missed. However, Baldock Blacks fought for the rebounds and scored more goals. GS made a quick recovery and returned to the game to help secure a win for the third quarter.
Due to the success of the third quarter, the team positions remained the same. Both teams felt the pressure as the final quarter would determine the winning team. Baldock Blacks centre court and defense continuously intercepted the ball and worked hard to ensure the shooters secured the goals. WA and C supported Baldocks shooters as they could pass the ball in and out of the goal circle until they found a suitable position to shoot from. Baldock took a strong lead against Great Barford. However, Great Barford began to secure shots, meaning Baldock was only 1 up into the last minute of the game. The pressure of the game increased dramatically as both teams gave it their all to win the game. Great Barford secured one last goal, resulting in an overall draw.
Baldock Blacks had a strong game and it was a shame it didn't result in a win! Thank you to Rosie for helping the team out this week!
