Match Report - 20 Feb 2012, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Blaze drew with cup/plate competition
So nearly a four week break due to ice and snow. However, no one returned from injury, in fact, we just had a another injury to add to the team. We now have 5 fit players out the 12 we started with! We are so lucky to have such strength and depth in the squad that we are still able to compete against these strong teams.
This week saw a Cup game in the Beford League. We were up against Beds Police again, who we lost to by 1 a few weeks before.
So the first quarter started out strangely as at least 3 -4 minutes passed and neither team had put a score on the board.
Both teams started to pop them in and by the end of the first quarter Baldock had scored just a few more.
The next quarter saw Beds make a few changes. They worked. Baldock defence was fantastic and Nat and Caroline were gelling well in attack but they just couldn't seem to find the shooters. Baldock lost that quarter.
In the third quarter Jane moved to GS and Jess Marley moved into GD with Sharon at GK. Both teams fought very hard and it was a bit fiesty in places. In the middle of the quarter Nat went over on her ankle and yep, you guessed it, another bad injury for the crusaders. Luckily we had taken 8 and Lesa came back on a GS with a new mind frame and she started popping them in.
Over all though Baldock Reds lost that quarter.
Going into the last quarter, Baldock were really fired up and determined not to lose this one.
Sharon went made some amazing interecptions and gave us the turn overs we needed. It was going tooth and nail with both teams swapping the lead. Then Baldock made a few uncharacteristic mistakes. It seemed we may lose this one. Then Sharon made another fantastic interception and the attack managed to find the shooters and we just took the lead.
The whistle went (phew!!) and it meant we had drawn the match. A real relief.
