Match Report - 29 Nov 2011, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Blaze beat Caldecote
Well, after returning from a fantastic trip to Liverpool for the Netball World Series (where we won BTW!!) the Reds were keen to put what they had learnt into practice!!
And they did (well, perhaps not to England standard). They immediately took charge despite being a shooter down as Lesa decided to go to Bedford! Luckily Blues were at home and Emma kindly leant us the lovely Holly to fill in at WD whilst Jess Young went to shooter.
I (Caroline) started at WA and Jane and Jo took the defensive circle, whilst Nat remained our constant star at Centre.
In the first quarter we managed to work the ball around in attack. As always Harriet at GA took some great space and both shooters owned the circle and worked really well together. Most of the shots were sunk and Baldock secured the first quarter of the cup game.
Lesa arrived for the second quarter and Holly had one off. I moved to GD whilst Jess went to WA and Jo went to WD. As it was cup, scores went back to zero.
Lesa immediatly found space and Harriet immediatly found Lesa. It was a combo that was to continuously work.
Jane and I managed to disrupt the attack and Baldock took the quarter comfortably.
In the third quarter Jo had a rest and Holly came back on at WD. She managed to get infront of the WA who constantly went for balls further down the court.
Nat was really strong at centre, both in attack and defence. She really steadied the ship.
The attack as a whole defended well and Caldecote found it difficult to clear the ball. In fact Caldecote became rattled and started to force balls which Baldock picked up. Another good quarter.
Baldock finished up with another strong quarter in the forth. A great win for the team especially yet again with half a squad. Big thanks to Holly for filling in and playing great. Fab to see Jane back too, lets hope the injury Gremlins stay away!
Harriet was voted by the umpires as Girl of the match. She really took control at GA and put up some lovely shots. Well done Harriet!
