Match Report - 15 Nov 2017, Baldock Crusaders Netball Club Baldock Crusaders Mystics beat Great Barford
Baldock won the toss so had the advantage of the first centre and secured their first goal. Baldock had a strong first quarter against Great Barford. Our defence were exceptionally strong which resulted in Great Barford feeling the pressure as Baldock snatched all possible rebounds and a win for the first quarter.
Unfortunately, Baldock lost the second quarter. Defence and attack worked extremely hard to turn over the ball and work it down the court to the shooters. The shooters missed a number of potential shots which would have ensured a clear lead for the quarter. After an encouraging half time team chat and advice from our weekly supporter, Tricky, the team improved on their weaknesses and claimed a strong lead in the third quarter.
The high number of turnovers meant the 4th quarter was tense. The number of shots were low from both teams in this quarter as the pressure of a potential win for Baldock or a possible draw for Great Barford was intensified as the clock ticked. The defence continuously intercepted the ball and attack brought the ball to the goal third. The pressure was felt by the shooters but support from the sideline encouraged the shooters to work extremely hard to secure a small number of shots, resulting in a win for the 4th quarter.
The game was won and Baldock celebrated their first win of the season. Baldock had a number of players who had their strongest game yet and we were able to identify the teams strengths and weaknesses which will be critical for improvement for future games. The game was very enjoyable and both teams commented on the positive and friendly nature of all of the players. Overall, Baldock secured an encouraging win that will hopefully follow with a number of victories in our following games.
