Baldock Crusaders Black lose at home against table leaders Shefford Sirens

Baldock 2 - 15 Shefford
Baldock 3 - 14 Shefford
Baldock 5 - 6 Shefford
Baldock 7 - 13 Shefford

The courts being extremely exposed and windy led to some challenging conditions all round. Shefford Sirens won the toss and picked to take first centre pass, they were quick to use this to their advantage and take the lead. Unfortunately, Baldock Black played some sloppy balls within the centre third and struggled to get it towards their goal, with few opportunities to score Baldock Black had to put up a strong defence, but the Shefford Sirens shooters were quick and accurate and were able to keep their score ticking over.

After a quick switch, Baldock Black were able to add pressure during the 2nd quarter, but again struggled to turn over the score and make use of the opportunities presented to them allowing Shefford to again, take the lead. With a usual shooter playing as GK, defence again worked hard to prevent as many goals as possible, but it wasn’t enough to save the quarter.

The third quarter saw much better play from Baldock Black. Slower passes, more pressure on Shefford when they were in possession and a much better use of the opportunities by the shooters meant that the score stayed very close. Baldock Black were heading towards their goal end to secure an equaliser when the whistle was blown, and Baldock Black were unlucky to lose this very closely played quarter.

With another swap of positions, Baldock Black were able to make better use of the opportunities presented to the shooters and as a result got their highest scoring quarter yet, however, after such a close quarter before, Shefford Sirens improved their performance and the added pressure led Baldock Black to making some sloppy moves once more.

All in all, not the best performance by Baldock Black. With several players ill and injured, the spirit of the team was quite low and this led to some untidy play. The team have taken this on board and can see clear areas where they need to improve. They hope to achieve a better result with each team as they prepare to face them all for a second match.
